Boyers’ Scholarship expectations:

Scholarship of Discovery: creating new and unique knowledge specific to the discipline of nursing. Development of new knowledge and making contributions to the knowledge base. Knowledge gained through theoretical, basic and applied research.

Scholarship of teaching: the transmission, transformation and extension of knowledge. Conveyance of the science and art of nursing from the expert to the novice, building bridges between the teacher’s understanding and the student’s learning.

Scholarship of Practice (Application): the application of knowledge in the broader context linking both theory and practice.

Scholarship of Integration: the generation of new knowledge and perspectives from purposeful examination of oringal work in nursing and other disciplines.

Scholarship of Service: generation and use of specialized nursing knowledge in community service. The specialized knowledge and experience of nurses are used to share the future of the profession, contribute to social efforts, advance nursing values, and benefit human and social welfare.
